Around 500 people joined on Sunday 25 April the “Prayer for Ecuador” event in Barcelona’s Catalonia square, in the city centre.

The moment of prayer was organised after the earthquake which has killed at least 650 people and left thousands wounded.

Evangelical Christians of different nationalities (many of them, Ecuadorians) and different churches and entities and passers-by joined the moment of prayer outdoors. In the distance, the group prayed to God for the families of the victims and of the devastation in the Latin country, and sang about their hope in the gospel.

Among the participants were relatives of victims, a representative of the Catalan parliament and the consul of Ecuador in Barcelona, Richard Eduardo Olivo.

One of the prayer points was related to the risk of epidemic diseases. Last week, evangelical Christians in Ecuador told Evangelical Focus about the aftershocks, and the destruction in the north of the country: “There is no way in which we can comfort the families, but we can tell them about the God of peace, the kind of peace that surpasses all knowledge. It is tough, there are stories of miracles but also scenes of much pain.”
