This summer, the First Baptist Church of the Spanish city of Alicante, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Town Hall, has organised the project “Young People and Human Rights“.

The initiative had three phases: first, a screening of the film “Twelve Years of Slavery”, with a post-film discussion for young people, and 3 conferences on human rights: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The Image of God and human rights, and the contribution of Protestantism to human rights.

The second phase, in collaboration with the community center of the neighborhood, was called “School of education in values and human rights”, and it was led by by the youth of the church, who work with the children for 4 days.

The last day, the children showed their parents all the works thay had done, and sang the songs and dances they have learned.

The project finished with two major events: first, the international mime Carlos Martínez, delighted the audience with his self-created show, based on human rights.

The final event was the concert of the Gospel Soul choir of Barcelona at the Auditorium of La Concha. More than 700 people came to enjoy the musical show. After the concert, some Christians shared their faith in Jesus.

“We thank God for the opportunity of giving testimony both to the city authorities, and to the hundreds of people we have been able to reach; as well as having contributed to improve our city”, the organisers of the First Baptist Church said.
