The bodies of 21 women and one man were found in a dinghy that was trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

A ‘Doctors Without Borders’ team rescued on Wednesday 209 survivors travelling in two rudimentary boats who had left Libya and were trying to reach the Italian coast.

The ‘Acquarius’ humanitarian boat took them all on board and brought them to safety.

Many of the people were “traumatised” and could barely speak.

50 minors were found among the survivors, 45 of them were unaccompanied.

‘Doctors Without Borders’ asked the European Union to do more to save lives. “The EU cannot turn its back to the people who risk their lives fleeing from violence, extreme poverty and political persecution.”

Only this week, more than 3,660 people have been rescued near Italy.
