A survey of the German Donation Monitor, on behalf of the German Fundraising Association, shows that Christians in Germany donate more than people without religious affiliation (56% vs 46%).

The German Fundraising Association surveyed 5,000 internet users between the ages of 16 and 70 in Germany.

Among the over-60 age group, the number of Christians who donor rises to 62%, compared to 52% among those with no religious affiliation.

Furthermore, almost 70% of Christians with assets of over EUR 100,000, donate money, while the figure drops to 54% in the other group.

According to the report, Christians who donate are also more involved in voluntary work than average (45%), and the figure for non-affiliated donors is 39%.

Not only Christians

Muslims in Germany also show a strong commitment to civil society, 55% of people of Islamic faith are donors, and 52% are involved in voluntary work, says the German Donation Monitor.

For Larissa Probst, managing director of the German Fundraising Association, “the culture of giving is less specifically Christian and correlates more with religious values such as lived solidarity, charity and responsibility for third parties, which many religious communities preach in the same or a similar way”.

“We welcome everything that promotes the culture of giving, especially in a time of desolidarisation!”, pointed out Probst.
