More than 70 young evangelists from 12 different countries gathered near Barcelona (Spain) to get equipped and inspired in their task.

Behold Europe was launched in a hotel in the town of Comarruga. The intention was to “be spurred on in what the Lord has called us to - reaching the lost people in our communities”, the organisers said.

“The gift of the evangelist was stirred afresh as we prayed, worshipped and dared to ask God for Europe”. The focus of this inaugural gathering was on young evangelists, “those early in their call to faithfully proclaim the Gospel and equip the saints to do likewise. Our goal was to bring such evangelists together from across Europe to encourage, equip and inspire. Something happens when evangelists rub shoulders together”.

The speakers in this inaugural conference were Lindsay Brown, Peter Pereira, Julia Garschagen, Andy Wickham, and Emil Shehadeh, Hélder Favarin and Martin Durham.

There were interview sessions which provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and glean from the wealth of experience each one brought. “We thank God for those who have been ‘on the road’ longer and are ready to invest in the younger generation. How essential this is. It is both biblical and makes a difference”.

Updates on the ‘state of the nation’ of a number of countries were also given, with the participants praying for each country in small groups.

RAISING UP EVANGELISTS WHO FOR THE LOCAL CHURCH CONTEXT

Martin Durham, of the leadership team, said: “We believe a key strategy for Gospel impact in Europe is the raising up of evangelists, who will faithfully proclaim the gospel, and primarily those who will work out their ministry through the local church context”.

One of the participants of this first European gathering, Pasha Syvyk (Ukraine) said: “This is definitely a life-changing time for us, for God’s Kingdom, and advancing of Gospel”.

“In these increasingly urgent days, we take hold of Jesus’ words in Matthew 9:37-38, and pray to the Lord of the harvest for workers”, the team behind Behold Europe added. “We are committed to press on, running alongside such young evangelists, standing alongside local churches, and praying that the vision of ‘Europe ablaze with the Gospel’ will become an increasing reality in our day”.
