Christians and gun control: What’s your opinion?

What do Christians think? Is there a biblical position to be defended?

The death of nine people in the attack against Charleston’s Emmanuel Methodist church last week highlighted once again the ongoing debate about gun-violence should be stopped.

USA’s president Obama has been vocal about his will to change the Constitution, but not only the Rifle Association opposes his ideas, many citizens in the country also do so.

In Europe the proliferation of guns in the public space is almost inexistent, and a majority of countries see the USA model as old and dangerous.

But what do Christians think? Is there a Christian position to be defended?

Can it be argued that banning the use of arms is an attack against the citizens’ liberties? Is there a clear gospel approach which would lead us to ban guns?

Can we have a biblical position about this topic?

Do Christians realize that voting for gun control, is voting, that police go to doors of good people and take guns, if needed? Voting, is saying yes you agree. Yes, you want laws on these good people you don't know. Yes, you want police to go to their doors and take their guns, if they won't hand them over. Yes, police can use violence, if necessary, on a chance, that someone could steal their guns, and use them in a bad way. Turn the cheek to a evil man, but go vote against a good ones choices?

US 2nd amendment is about the right of civilians to bear arms for the purpose of defense. This includes a tyrannous government. Taking away firearms prevents or limits that. Firearms allow those who are weaker to protect themselves. More people die from automobile accidents and more people die from stabbings. Should we also ban automobiles and knives?
