“Stop judging by mere appearances and make a right judgement.” (John 7:24)

There are times when things seem very different from what they really are. The distorting effect of the earth’s atmosphere (the refraction of the sun’s rays in its gases) causes the spherical or round shape of the sun to seem altered, depending on where it is in relation to the earth.

I took this photograph of a sunset in the Fuente de Piedra lagoon in Malaga. The little black shadows in the water are a colony of flamingos that had flocked together to sleep. Likewise, there are times when our prejudices cause us to make mistakes, and to judge on the basis of appearances. We need to ask the Lord to give us more humility and more prudence so that we understand what really lies below the surface.
