A group of evangelical parliamentarians of several Latin American countries have called for a fair Presidential election in Venezuela.

The Ibero-American Union of Christian Parliamentarians (UIPC) denounced the profound humanitarian crisis which is “a consequence of the political and social crisis caused by the illegitimate government of Nicolás Maduro, which has cut the freedoms and individual rights of the Venezuelan people”.

The group of evangelical politicians is led by the Uruguayan Member of Parliament Gerardo Amarilla.

In the statement, they recognise Juan Guaidó (President of the National Assembly, Venezuela’s parliament) as the constitutional and legitimate President, and call for immediate and fair elections, with the guarantees of the international organisations and observers.

The UIPC supports the position of the Organisation of American States (OAS) which had called all member states to adopt all diplomatic, political, financial measures available to contribute to the prompt restoration of the rule of democracy in Venezuela.

The fraternity of evangelical politicians joins the calls to “contribute to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela” and “rejects the violence of Maduro’s regime, which prevents the aid from arriving to the Venezuelan people”.
