For seven years, the Ministry Rivers of Living Water has been alongside the authorities of the Penitentiary System ‘La Modelo’ of the city of Tipitapa (Nicaragua).

The Christian project offers spiritual accompaniment for the inmates, through prayer, fasting and Bible studies.

“We and the inmates work in the spiritual transformation of attitudes so that once they leave prison they can start a new life as citizens. We include them in our educational learning system, and offer spiritual care to help them become new men”, José Antonio Chacón, Director of the penitentiary centre told the media.

More than 600 inmates took part in a special evangelical vigil or prayer, organised by Rivers of Living Water. They sang worship songs and prayed aloud for peace in Nicaragua, a country that is going through a severe socio-political crisis.

The spiritual journey has radically changed the lives of many of those imprisoned in ‘La Modelo’. Blanca Nuvia Briones Ruiz, an experienced pastor, said the seven years of preaching the Scriptures in this centre has had visible outcomes. “The Lord Jesus commands Christians to preach to all people, and we aim to see a change in the attitudes and thinking of the inmates”.

The Christian organisation sees the year 2019 as a “year of reward” in which. After “many difficulties” in the Nicaraguan society, “the people start looking for God to live in peace” and “love is promoted in the families”.
