Jacobus (Kobus) Kok (PhD) studied Theology at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and also as D.A.A.D. stipendiat at the University of Bonn in Germany and extended periods at the Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands). From 2003-2009 he was Minister in the Dutch Reformed Church and from 2009-2015 he was Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria. Kobus’ research focusses on the social-scientific investigation of ancient (New Testament) group dynamics and identity construction and he is also the first NT scholar in the world to use Dialogical Self Theory as heuristic tool in New Testament Studies in this way. Currently he is head of the department of New Testament Studies at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit in Leuven where he studies the dynamics of drawing and transcending social boundaries. He is married and has two sons.
