Morgan Freeman will host “The Story of God”

Morgan Freeman is going to lead National Geographic's upcoming project “The Story of God". The program will explore people's beliefs about God and the divine all over the world.

Freeman will visit some of the world's most famous religious sites, including Jerusalem's Wailing Wall, India's Bodhi Tree, Mayan temples, the 10,000-year-old ruins at Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, Stonehenge, the Vatican, and even Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, among others.

“The aim is to learn about rituals from cultures around the world and even undergo lab experiments that examine the scientific side of spiritual experiences”, Freeman told the press.

“AN EPIC ADVENTURE”

Described as an “epic adventure and profoundly personal journey into the eternal mysteries of the divine,” the series will follow Freeman as he embarks on an epic exploration and intimate reflection on God, immersing himself in religious experiences and rituals all around the world.

He will also become a test subject in scientific labs to examine "how the frontiers of neuroscience and cosmology are intersecting the traditional domain of religion."

Each episode will focus on one big question about the divine, from the mystery of creation, to the true power of miracles, to the promise of resurrection.

 “The Story of God” will be on air in 2016 on National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Mundo in the U.S. and globally in 171 countries and 45 languages.

“GOD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TOPIC”

Lori McCreary, an executive producer on the series, was convinced that “with Morgan as our storyteller, we are going to produce a visually stunning and thought-provoking series that will spur meaningful conversations about God and faith, by believers and nonbelievers alike.”

“God is arguably the most important topic of our time," McCreary said. “National Geographic’s unprecedented inside access will allow us to explore the global mystery behind God and religion”, she added.

"The story of God is one of the greatest mysteries and most important ideas in the world," Freeman said. "For me, this is a personal and enduring quest to understand the divine, and I am humbled by the opportunity to take viewers along on this incredible journey."

The actor, who has previously expressed skeptical views on religion, will also give his personal reflections throughout the journey.

This is the second time in this year that National Geographic produced material related to religion, after last Easter premiere of Killing Jesus.
