According to the Observatory of Religious Pluralism in Spain, evangelical places of worship account for 56% of non-Catholic places of worship in Spain and are the most numerous among the so-called ‘minority’ religions.

Of the 8,140 non-Catholic places of worship belonging to 17 different denominations, 4,572 are Evangelical, followed by 1,908 Muslim (23% of the total); while Jehovah's Witnesses are in third place with 572 ( outnumbering mosques and Muslim centres in specific regions such as Asturias and Galicia).

After them, the confessions in Spain with the most places of worship are the Orthodox (236); Buddhists (182); Adventists (154); the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (114); and the Bahá'ís (106).

Some way behind are the Anglican communion (68); synagogues and Jewish spaces (46); Gnostics (37); Hindus (31), Sikhs (28, half of them in Catalonia), and followers of Scientology (14) and Christian Science (5).

Catalonia and Andalusia

These latest figures published in 2025 show that only 17.6% of the country's municipalities have a non-Catholic place of worship. Most are in Catalonia, and especially in the province of Barcelona, with 70% of the 1,625 places of worship.

The other regions with the highest concentration of these places of worship are Andalusia, with 1,298; Madrid (1,167); the Valencian Community (933) and the Canary Islands (426).

Those with the fewest are Ceuta, Cantabria, La Rioja and Asturias, with 31, 55, 66 and 98, respectively.

Evangelical majority

Evangelical places of worship are also mainly concentrated in Catalonia, Madrid and Andalusia.

In addition, in Catalonia and Andalusia, as well as in Castile and León, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community, Extremadura and the Canary Islands, they account for more than 50%.

In Asturias and Galicia, they exceed 60%, while in Cantabria and Madrid they have already exceeded 70%.

Ceuta, Melilla, La Rioja and Navarre are the only places where there are more Muslim centres, with evangelical places of worship in second place.

More Muslims in villages

According to the latest demographic study by the Andalusian Observatory, there are now more than two and a half million Muslims in Spain, many of whom use alternative spaces to celebrate their festivities, as was the case in Jumilla (Murcia), where until now they used to meet in the local sports centre.

Muslims are the largest religious group in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, with 285 places of worship, 57% of the total. Most are in Castilla-La Mancha (43), Navarre (39) and Catalonia (34).

In municipalities with between 5,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, as well as in cities with between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants, evangelical churches are once again more numerous, with around 400 more churches than mosques.
