Next census will allow UK citizens to choose different sex from birth certificate

The government survey takes place every 10 years. “If you're not sure how to answer, use the sex registered on your official documents (…) or whichever answer best describes your sex”, the guidance for 2021 says.

The next major survey of the population in the United Kingdom will allow citizens to self-identify their sex.

The guidance produced by the Office for National Statistics says respondents will be able to declare their sex to be “different from what is on your birth certificate”.

“If you are one or more of non-binary, transgender, have variations of sex characteristics, sometimes also known as intersex, the answer you give can be different from what is on your birth certificate," the guidance states.

The data collected in this once in a decade general survey is used by the UK government to help shape and formulate policy for the next years.

The census document will tell respondents: “If you’re not sure how to answer, use the sex registered on your official documents, such as passport or driving licence, or whichever answer best describes your sex (…). A later question gives the option to tell us if your gender is different from your sex registered at birth, and, if different, to record your gender”.

DOCTORS ALERT ABOUT CONFUSION

The possiblity of choosing one’s sex in the official census is one of the many changes in policy adopted by the UK authorities to respond to the demands of LGBT groups.

Medicine experts have already expressed their concern that the free election of one’s sex in official documents could profoundly affect the medical treatments of patients. “Almost every kind of illness behaves differently in men and women”, a doctor told English newspaper Mail on Sunday.

Evangelical Christians in the UK have also expressed their views regarding the “culture of deconstruction” that fuels the debates on transgenderism.
