German athlete Yemisi Ogunleye won the bronze medal in the shot put competition at the European Athletics Championships in Rome with a throw of 18.62 metres.
After winning the silver medal at the World Championships in Glasgow in March 2024, she has become one of the leading names in her discipline.
“I gave it my all”, said Ogunleye after competing. In addition to her sporting career, the athlete also openly talks about her Christian faith and participates in a gospel choir in Karlsruhe.
“Thank you for the many prayers - Is God good? All the time!”, she shared on her social media after she stood on the podium again.
A rising career
Rome is Yemisi Ogunleye's first European Athletics Championships.
“II will be competing in my first European Championships. Super excited about this championship and what God has in store for me. His way is better than ours”, she posted on social media days before the start of the competition.
Ogunleye also shared a passage from the Bible, Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”.
Rome is Ogunleye's third medal of her career. She has previously won two silver medals, at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March 2024 and at the European Games in Krakow in 2023.
The German is ranked ninth in the women's shot put world rankings.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, she will be one of the leading names to watch in the category, with the expectation of winning her first Olympic metal.
