Some were not interested in losing their power and corrupt privileges. Others preferred to continue their religious life with a “straw God”.

The First Baptist Church of Alicante, Spain, is celebrating its 145th anniversary in 2016. Cultural and social activities are part of the program that this centenary church is preparing to share with the local community.
“We aim to share our testimony of Jesus, reclaim the right of the church to have a place among the local and regional institutions, and celebrate God´s faithfulness al these years”, they explained in an statement.
A PIONEER IN SPAIN
The First Baptist Church of Alicante started on May 7, 1871, under the supervision of Rvdo. Willian Ireland Knapp.

MUSIC, ART EXHIBITIONS, SOLIDARITY, AND MORE
There will be a panting exhibition by the Christian painter Antonio Soto in March; a gospel music concert in October, a gathering with local NGOs, in order to work together for the city, and many other different events. All the information will be posted in its facebook page.
The church propels a social organisation called “Paving the way”, which reaches dozens of people in Alicante, meeting the needs they have.

“We want to share the joy of God´s faithfulness with His church, and be grateful for all the witnesses that came before us, brothers and sisters who have sustained God´s work in Alicante”, Castro said.
“We are also grateful for the pastors who, throughout these years, has been instruments in God´s hands to edify His church, and share the faith in Jesus in this city”, the pastor concluded.
