The First Evangelical Baptist Church of ‘La Trinidad’ in Dénia has held, as is traditional every June, its baptism service in the Mediterranean sea.
On this occasion, the event marked the 105th anniversary of the first baptisms performed by the congregation’s pioneers, who took this step amidst a climate of religious persecution and intolerance.

Following the biblical example and that of the church’s early believers, sixteen people aged between 14 and 80 have publicly confessed their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism, in the presence of a large gathering of family members, friends and church members.
They all assembled at the usual spot: the Marge Roig site, in the shelter of the historic ruins of the English Protestant Cemetery of Dénia.

The ceremony, steeped in symbolism and gratitude to God, bears witness to how the faith has remained alive for over a century in the town of Dénia.
Pastors Elías Nofuentes, Marcos Martins and retired pastor Jorge J. Pastor have guided this group of new believers in their discipleship and baptised them.
With this celebration, the First Evangelical Baptist Church of ‘La Trinidad’ renews its commitment to proclaiming the Gospel and to continuing to be a living testimony to the Christian faith in the town and the region.

A common practice in Spain
In Spain, the vast majority of evangelical churches (ranging from Baptists to the Brethren, including Pentecostals) baptise their members as adults.
Dozens of evangelical churches in coastal areas routinely baptise new converts in public places such as the beach, rivers or outdoor swimming pools.
