Juan Luis Guerra was one of the big winners in the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards ceremony, held in Las Vegas. The Dominican singer, songwriter and composer won 3 Grammys.
Guerra’s work “Todo tiene su tiempo” (Everything has its time) won Album of the Year award, as well as the Tropical Album of the Year award. He received a third Grammy for “Tus besos”, winner of the Best Tropical Song award. The award ceremony was held in the Grand Garden MGM Arena, on November 19th.
“Todo tiene su tiempo” is the thirteenth album of the musician’s career, which includes hits like “La BIlirrubina”, “La llave de mi corazón”, “En el cielo no hay hospital” (There is no hospital in heaven”) and “Ojalá que llueva café.”
Guerra helped popularise the merengue and bachata music styles, producing cheerful music surrounded by top professional musicians.
His lyrics touch on social justice and life’s struggles, with a spiritual perspective.
Guerra has been very vocal about his faith in Jesus Christ ever since after his “discovery” of the Christian faith in 1995.
“I WAS EMPTY... JESUS GAVE ME PEACE”
In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the artist explained how he started trusting God after a deep personal crisis. “God is my anxiolytic because all my afflictions went away when I discovered Him, the moment I started trusting Him.”
“After years of success in the music industry, I had it all, but until then, I was empty.” It was “a very hard time, with much obscurity, but yes… Jesus gave me peace.”
In 2004, he launched one of his most successful albums, “Para ti” (For You). He composed almost all songs of the project as an act of worship. Surprisingly, the album sold hundreds of thousands of copies (more than 300,000 only in the USA) and topped the music charts in several countries.
