The President and General Director of the Spanish Bible Society (SBE), Manuel Álvarez and Luis Fajardo, recently inaugurated their new headquarters, the ‘Home of the Bible’ in Madrid.
Members of the SBE Board of Directors, government representatives, pastors and friends of the organisation from all over the country attended the event.
“We want you to see this place as your home, the home of all of you who love the Bible”, said the general Director, Luis Fajardo.
Pastor Julio García Celorio, member of the Permanent Commission of the Federation of Evangelical Religious Entities of Spain (FEREDE), gave a brief greeting, replacing executive Secretary Carolina Bueno, who was unable to attend due to health problems.
Furthermore, the Deputy General Director of Religious Freedom of the Ministry of the Presidency, Parliamentary Relations and Democratic Memory of the Spanish government, Mercedes Murillo, congratulated the SBE “for this new space that you have achieved with a lot of effort”.
“I am sure that it will allow you to go on and carry out in an even better way your mission of translation and dissemination of the Bible, started by Jorge Borrow in 1936”, added Murillo.
“A space with history”
The opening ceremony took place in the museum hall Adolfo Araújo, a space dedicated to the memory of the first President of the Spanish Bible Society, the pastor and colporteur Adolfo Araújo García (Santander, 1878 - Madrid, 1956).
“A space with history”, said Fajardo, pointing to the photograph of Araújo that presides over the room, as well as the shelves full of Bibles and old texts that decorate its walls.
Finally, two members of the Board of Directors, commended the new headquarters to the Lord in prayer, followed by a cocktail reception and an informal time of fellowship and fraternal communion.
All attendees received a gift bag with gospels, biblical texts and other SBE materials.
