It is the second synagogue from that time found there, which was a key center of the Jewish life . The New Testament refers to it as the birthplace of Mary Magdalene.

Texts from the Bible, the Quran, the Torah and  Buddhist and secular  texts were read during the service by young people of different denominations.

The scroll was unearthed in 1970 in a synagogue at Ein Gedi. Now, a high resolution 3D scanning has allowed to decipher it.
