Viviane Morales was recently appointed as the new Education Minister of Colombia.
The newly elected President, Abelardo de la Espriella, said that her appointment was part of a “moral reconstruction of the country” and a return to traditional values within the education system.
In his announcement on social media, the new president stressed “Morales's Christian faith” and her “unwavering sense of service”, as well as her 15 years of experience in education.

The Christian faith is a constant presence in Morales' life, both in her political career and her public service. She is an active member of the evangelical church Casa Sobre la Roca, where she has engaged in community work and spiritual leadership.
First female Attorney General
Morales, a 63-year-old native of Bogotá, became the first female Attorney General of Colombia. She has also held positions as a representative in the House of Representatives and a senator during two legislative periods.
While serving as Colombia's ambassador to France, Morales said that representing her country was "a privilege and an honour". During that time, she stood out for her commitment to humanitarian causes, such as providing assistance to Venezuelan migrants.
Family-based education
Morales has historically defended the idea that education should respect the principles and values of families, insisting on the freedom of parents to participate in their children's ethical formation.
The new minister has expressed that she views education as a space for dignity, respect, and comprehensive formation, where academic quality coexists with ethical principles and social responsibility.
The opposition and some progressive sectors have criticised her appointment as minister of education because of her conservative and Christian values.
