Joe Biden has won the election and will become the 46th President of the United States, according to reports from the country's leading news agencies and media.

“It's time to put away the harsh rhetoric, to lower the temperature, to see each other again, to listen to each other, to make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies, we are Americans”, Biden said after learning of his victory in key states, such as Pennsylvania or Nevada.

However, the elections will be resolved by the courts, after the Republican candidate and incumbent President, Donald Trump, called the elections “a fraud”.

“This election is far from over. Our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated”, he pointed out. His claims will likely force the counting of counted votes in more than one state.

Trump had already proclaimed himself the winner before the vote count was resolved in many key states. “We have won this election”, he said last week. The President had also called for a stop to the vote count and had made several accusations through social media.

Twitter and Facebook have warned about the false content of some of his publications over the past few days.

Trump's accusations have generated different reactions. Thousands of the president's supporters have demonstrated in cities such as Phoenix, Philadelphia and Atlanta with banners bearing the slogan “stop the robbery”.

“Generalized charges of voter fraud will be dangerous to America”

Meanwhile, the President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Albert Mohler, who had publicly identified himself as a voter for Trump in 2016 elections, warned that “generalized charges of voter fraud will be dangerous to America as a nation”.

“Although President Trump has pointed to what he considers to be election irregularities, there is no serious credible concern about voting irregularity. if Americans continue to argue the elections indefinitely, there is no future for this Republic”, he added.

According to a report by the organization FairVote, over the past 20 years there have been 31 recounts in the 5,778 state-wide elections held, and in three cases the first announced voting result was reversed: in the 2004 Washington's Governor election, the 2006 Vermont's Comptroller election, and the 2008 Minnesota Senate election.

A general call for unity

Other evangelical leaders who had shown their preferences during the US elections, have now called for unity.

“Whoever wins this election, whether it is Trump or Joe Biden, it is my prayer that Americans would pull together, no matter how close the final results may be”, President of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Franklin Graham, said on Twitter.

Remembering the 102 anniversary of his father birth, he stressed that Billy Graham “would encourage Americans everywhere to pray for the future of our nation & the political direction that could come”.

Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Executive Committee (SBC), told Baptist Press that “Southern Baptists are a praying people, and I call for everyone to obey the sufficient Scripture’s command to pray for our government leaders every day. Only God can heal the deep division in America and this is why we must pray”.

Furthermore, Russell Moore, President of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (ERLC),underlined that “no matter how you voted, now is the time to pray for the country and for our newly elected leaders in both the White House and the Congress”.
