“More than 2,000 years ago, when Jesus lived, many went to Jerusalem every year to celebrate the Jewish Passover festival. Jesus was a Jew, so he also arrived to Jerusalem, the day known as Palm Sunday.”

This is how the international supermarket chain Aldi defines one of the days of the Easter Week.

Aldi's Easter booklet front page.

In a booklet distributed to their clients in the weeks before Easter. In its front page, it says: Easter easily explained”, asks “why do we celebrate Easter?” and explains the booklet is “for our little costumers”, the children.

“Some women on Easter Sunday went to find the grave, they saw that the stone had been rolled away and the grave was empty. Suddenly, and angel appeared and told them about Jesus’ resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is what is celebrated on Easter Sunday”, the text reads.

It follows: “Easter Monday goes back to a fact described in the Gospel of Luke. Three days after Jesus was crucified, two disciples were on their way to Emaus, and although they did not recognise him in the beginning, they later understood it was Jesus. They went back to Jerusalem and informed others about Jesus’ resurrection.”

The booklet has been distributed in the supermarkets of the south of Germany.
