Daddy Yankee, one of the most successful artists in the Latin urban music genre, held a farewell concert in Puerto Rico, leaving a last message about his faith in Jesus and the new direction he hopes for his life.

The concert, which officially closed his career, could also be followed on streaming, reaching all corners of the world.

“Puerto Rico, now we are ready to say goodbye to my musical career as it deserves. This will be my greatest achievement, to be with my people and with all those who will visit my beautiful island for my retirement”, he said.

In the concert, which he called “The finish line”, he was accompanied by other artists, such as Rauw Alejandro, Luis Fonsi, Zuleyka Rivera and Dj Luian.

A new path

After presenting the songs that have made him one of the most successful artists in the history of the genre, Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez stressed that “living a successful life is not the same as living a life with purpose. I tried for a long time to fill a void in my life. At times I appeared to be happy, but something was missing to make me complete. I have to confess that those days are over” .

“Someone can fill the void I felt. I realised that I was somebody to everybody, but I was nothing without him. I travelled the world for years, won many awards, applause and recognition, but I understood what the Bible says: What good is it for a man to gain the whole world if he loses his soul? That's why, tonight, I acknowledge and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and I will live for him”, added the artist.

“The Bible says, 'Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father'. Now, whoever knows me as Daddy Yankee, let them say, Daddy Yankee in Christ”, asked Daddy Yankee.

“To the people who followed me: follow Jesus”

“One story is over and a new story is going to start, a new beginning. All the tools I have, such as music, social media, platforms, a microphone, everything that Jesus gave me is now for the Kingdom”, he pointed out.

Daddy Yankee finished calling on his followers to “do not follow any man, I am a human being. To all the people who followed me, follow Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth and the life. Christ loves us and Christ is coming”.

Other important artists in the urban music genre took a similar step in recent years, including Almighty, Farruko, Voltio or Don Omar.
