Once again, Germany carried out more than 100,000 abortions.
According to data from the national statistics agency (Destatis), 106,000 terminations of pregnancy were carried out in Germany in 2024, 0.2% more than the previous year.
The increase in the total figure is 6.8% compared to 10 years ago, in 2014. Between that year and 2020, the figure was between 99,000 and 101,000 per year.

Probably due to the effects of the pandemic, in 2021 Germany experienced its lowest number of abortions since records began (95,000). Between 1995 and 2001, the country had annual rates of over 130,000 abortions per year.
Older women
Although the vast majority of women who terminated their pregnancy in Germany were aged between 18 and 34 (69%), the youngest age groups have seen a reduction in terminations of -13% (15 to 17 years) and -8% (20 to 24) in the last decade.
On the other hand, in the last ten years there has been a sharp increase in abortions among women aged 35 to 39 (+31%) and 40 to 44 (+23%).
Most abortions (79%) were performed in the first eight weeks of pregnancy.
Only 4% of abortions were justified on medical grounds or for sexual offences (rape). In other words, 96% of abortions were carried out under the so-called advisory regulation for cases that are not extreme.
Pro-life movements
Pro-life movements in Germany demonstrate every year to defend the dignity of unborn human beings, as well as that of vulnerable and sick people.
Data from other European countries (such as the UK, Switzerland, Spain) also show an upturn of abortions after the pandemic.
