2025 is coming to an end. And with it, the tenth year of Evangelical Focus, an anniversary that we celebrated in January.
In the last 12 months, more than 700 articles have been published on this platform about the church, society and all their connections in Europe. As many as 61 new authors have joined us in 2025 (the archive with all opinion articles is here).

Amidst all this flow of information, it is easy for some important stories to get overlooked. That is why, as this year draws to a close, we are bringing back 10 stories from the Evangelical Focus team that we recommend you read in case you missed them.

Christians from 6 countries at the Srcokret festival, in June 2025. / Photo: Srcokret Fest. 1. Evangelicals in six countries in south-eastern Europe who experienced war and division are now strongly committed to collaboration. An international youth festival in Croatia is the result of this renewed joint work.
2. A Russian drone strike killed a father and his young daughter sheltering in a church after fleeing eastern Ukraine. On the front line, church members are among the soldiers, and society as a whole suffers from the trauma of war that continues unabated. The European Evangelical Alliance took the step of inviting the Ukrainian Evangelical Alliance to its network.

3. The cultural battles of a certain brand of American evangelicalism are once again resonating in Europe. Public television stations in France and Spain are among those warning in alarmist tones about the growth of evangelicalism. In some cases, apologies have been issued for the stereotypes peddled by sensationalist journalism. Julia Doxat-Purser calls for calm and for European evangelicals to continue to be good ambassadors for Christ. In Switzerland, Christians debate how the church can continue to control power from outside.
4. The “Quiet Revival” is the subject of much discussion in the United Kingdom, where statistics on church attendance are rising sharply. In Finland and Spain, too, there is surprise at how the Christian faith is arousing curiosity among young people.
5. Recent cases of abuse of power and sexual abuse are forcing Spanish evangelicals to commit to fundamental change. A manifesto signed by more than 200 evangelical organisations and leaders was published. The aim is to break the culture of silence and give a voice to the victims.

6. Päivi Räsänen awaits the final ruling of the Finnish Supreme Court on her use of the Bible to discuss human sexuality. We interviewed her in Berlin.
7. The European Union has called for rearmament in the face of possible future war scenarios. We asked Christian leaders in four countries how they see it. Some travelled to the Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv.
8. In Serbia, Christian teachers and students joined massive protests against corruption. Also in Romania, Christians explain the cost of confronting systemic corruption in the past.
9. One of the new Roman Catholic Pope's moves is to affirm that Mary is not co-redeemer with Christ. We asked Leonardo de Chirico in Italy what this means. We also analyse the new “saints” of the Vatican and the charm that conclaves continue to exert on the world's media attention.
10. Collaboration between evangelical Christians in Europe continues to grow. From the annual ELF in Poland, to the M4 movement with its meeting in Norway, to the collaboration of theological seminaries or ministries serving displaced people, young people with a desire to see a European revival, and the meeting of the Lausanne Movement Europe.
