“Jesus’ revolution will turn the city upside down!” This is an excerpt of the lyrics of one of the hip-hop songs to which ten teams of young evangelists danced at ten locations in Prague at the break of July and August (25 July - 4 August) as part of a summer mission initiative.

The project was initiated by a Norwegian ministry called Jesus Revolution and the Pentecostal congregation AC Heart Prague, with the cooperation of several other evangelical churches in the capital city of the Czech Republic.

Around 270 young people from 30 different countries came to the city to learn how to preach the Gospel for three days and to prepare a program to take to the streets later.

After they danced their first hip-hop dance (quite well – they even did a few backflips), the first preacher enthusiastically took the floor: “Hello Prague! We are a group of people from different nations and we have come to tell you stories from our lives. Those of you who can hear us, come closer so you can see us too!”

Most people kept their Czech distance, but many stopped and listened curiously.

More dancing followed, with the young people sharing stories from their lives and preaching the Gospel clearly and simply. Then they went among the people and offered prayer and conversation. This happened two or three times per night.

We, the local Christians, prayed, fasted, cooked dinners, baked pastries, cleaned up. And later, we translated into Czech in the park, waiting tensely as each evangelist at the end of the program invited slightly surprised listeners to raise their hand if they wanted to receive Christ as their personal saviour.

And we were even more surprised when, occasionally, a few hands went up… Here in Czechia! We were pleasantly surprised when people were then interested in talking, accepting Jesus, or being healed.

These ‘revolutionaries’ may not have “turned the whole city upside down”, but they did shake a few people up, anger a few, encourage a few, and bring a few into the Kingdom of God.

Among the latest was a young lady in the Pankrác district, who sat down about two meters from the above-mentioned "preacher" at the very beginning (the closest possible spot) and then came all the other evenings, joining the Saturday procession through the city (the Jesus March), ending at the Old Town Square. Eventually she responded to the call and accepted Jesus into her life.

According to organisers, a total of 13,287 people heard about the Gospel (and about 300 reportedly responded to the call to accept Jesus). And in some of us, hope was rekindled that it makes sense to step out of the safety zone and seek out the seekers around us.
